Weekly update corona figures

In the past week, 44% more people tested positive for COVID-19 compared to the week before. Reported figures increased in all regions and in all age groups. The number of new patients admitted to hospital with COVID-19 increased by 20%. 14% more new patients with COVID-19 were admitted to ICU. Upward trend in reported infections continues.

Positive Tests
In the past week, 25,751 positive test results were reported. That's 44% more than the week before, when 17,832 people received a positive test result. The number of positive tests per 100,000 inhabitants increased from 105 to 152. Last week, 198,418 people were tested, which is a quarter more than the week before, when 157,740 were tested. The percentage of positive tests in the Municipal Public Health Services (GGD) increased from 10.3% to 12.0%. The increase in the number of positive tests seems to be related to the relaxed measures implemented over three weeks ago, combined with the seasonal effect.

Increase seen in all regions and all age groups
The number of newly reported infections increased in all age groups. Continuing the trend from the week before, the number of reported infections per 100,000 people was highest in the age groups below 50 years old. All security regions have shown an increase in the number of reported positive tests.

Hospital and ICU admissions
The number of people admitted to hospital with COVID-19 increased by 20% from 321 to 385 people. 14% more new patients with COVID-19 were admitted to ICU than the week before: 81 people in the past week, compared to 71 people a week earlier.

There are regional differences in hospital admissions. Looking at hospital admissions in relation to the number of people living in the region, the highest numbers of people with COVID-19 admitted to hospital last week were observed in the regions of Limburg-Noord, Gelderland-Midden, IJsselland and Limburg-Zuid. Most people admitted to hospital with COVID-19 have not been vaccinated against SARS-CoV-2. 4 in 5 COVID-19 patients in the intensive care wards are not vaccinated.

Reproduction number
The reproduction number has increased from 1.12 to 1.20 and is still above 1. This means that 100 people who have COVID-19 will collectively infect another 120 new people. In other words, the virus is spreading faster again.
