In the past week, 19% more new patients with COVID-19 have been admitted to hospital. 26% more new COVID-19 patients were admitted to ICU. 13% more people came to the test locations of the GGD to be tested. There are 39% more people with a positive test result reported than in the week before. The largest increase can be seen in the number of reports of children up to the age of 12. The number of reports increased in all regions.
In the past week, 153,957 people received a positive test result. That's 39% more than the week before, when 110,558 people received a positive test result. The number of positive tests per 100,000 inhabitants increased from 628 to 862. Last week, 629,349 people were tested at the GGD. That is 13% more than the week before, when there were 554,588. The percentage of positive tests in the GGD test streets has increased from 19.6% to 22.2% (this includes testing after a positive self-test).
Most positive test results per 100,000 inhabitants were reported in the following safety regions: Limburg-Zuid 1,240 reports, Zuid Holland-Zuid 1,108 reports, Zeeland 1,088 reports, Limburg-Noord 1,030 reports and Gelderland-Midden 990 reports.
Most reports among children
The number of corona reports increased in all age groups. We see the most positive tests per 100,000 inhabitants among children up to and including 12 years of age, namely 1,275 per 100,000 inhabitants. The number of reports per 100,000 inhabitants is highest among children between 7 and 11 years of age. Compared to the age group 7 to 11 years, the number of reports per 100,000 is considerably lower among 12 to 19 year olds. That difference will partly be because children under the age of 12 are not vaccinated and have unimpaired contact with each other. More than 60% of children aged 12 to 17 are fully vaccinated.
Hospital and ICU admissions
The number of people admitted to hospital with COVID-19 increased by 19% from 1,545 to 1,833 people. 46% of all admissions in the past week, almost half of COVID-19 patients, are between the ages of 60 and 79. 26% more new COVID-19 patients were admitted to ICU than the week before: 289 people in the past week, compared to 229 people a week earlier. 58% of all new ICU admissions are patients between the ages of 60 and 79. 33% of the patients in the ICU were between the ages of 40 and 59.
Hospital admissions vary by region. In the past week, compared to the number of inhabitants in the region, most patients with COVID-19 were admitted to hospitals in the regions of Limburg-Zuid, Limburg-Noord, Brabant-Zuidoost, Gelderland-Zuid en Friesland.
Vaccination status of patients with COVID-19
The chance that a fully vaccinated person with COVID-19 will be admitted to hospital is much lower than for a non-vaccinated person. On 18 November, RIVM published an update on the vaccination status of people admitted to hospital with COVID-19. It included the latest results from the study on how well the vaccines protect against serious illness.
The reproduction number has remained the same at 1.21. This means that 100 people who have corona together infect 121 new people.
