Weekly update corona figures

From 1 March to 8 March 2022, 439,775 new positive corona tests were reported to RIVM. That is a substantial increase (+79%) compared to the previous week (245,898 positive tests). The number of ICU admissions stabilized: 82 patients were admitted, which is 16% less than in the week before. The reproduction number (R) has risen from 0,77 to 1.

Positive Tests
In the past week, 439,775 positive tests were reported to RIVM. This is considerably more (+79%) than the week before (245,898). This increase is a combined effect of the carnival week in the south of the Netherlands and the relaxation of corona measures. The number of positive tests increased in all regions, but the number is highest in the southern provinces of North-Brabant and Limburg.

594,865 people got tested, which is 60% more than the week before (372,354). The number of reported positive tests increased in all age groups, doubling in the age groups 18 to 24 (+111%) and 25 to 29 years (+99%). But the number of reported positive tests has also risen in the age group 60 years and older.

Hospital and ICU-admissions
The number of new patients who had to be hospitalized due to a corona infection went from 1,118 to 1,171. There were 82 new patients admitted to the ICU, a decrease of 16% compared to the previous week. The impact of an increasing number of infections on the number of hospital admissions becomes visible on average about 2 weeks later.

Reproduction Number
The reproduction number (R) has risen from 0,77 to 1.
